Emma qualified in 2001.

Cardiff and Vale University Health board: Since qualifying Emma has worked in rotations including hand therapy, Spinal Injury Unit, Wheelchair Service, Neuro Rehabilitation Unit and acute admissions.

Welsh Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centre at Rookwood Hospital in Cardiff: In 2007 was promoted to Senior Occupational Therapist where she continues to work. As the most senior clinical Emma’s caseload reflects some of the most complex cases who require significant input including powered mobility, development of Tenodesis grip, access to assistive technology and major adaptations as well as continuing health care assessment. She provides functional rehabilitation and discharge planning following catastrophic injuries.

Emma’s role has evolved to include one of teaching and support to junior staff, technicians and students as well as education to the wider multidisciplinary Team, community services, family and carers. She presents to the patient education programme (SCIP) regarding pressure and skin management. She undertakes Join The Dots Wheelchair Skills Training in conjunction with Back Up and has participated in the In-Reach Service provided to the University Hospital of Wales to appraise referrals and determine their appropriateness for rehabilitation.

Emma provides a fault finding course to technicians across the trust to up skill them and provide certification for the work they undertake on wheelchairs and issuing equipment. This course is delivered in conjunction with Invacare (global company) and its certification serves as evidence of appropriate training and skill to issue equipment.

Emma has received numerous nomination at The Spinal Injury Association awards.

CJ Occupational Therapy: Emma joined CJ Occupational Therapy in November 2017 as a Senior Associate Occupational Therapist. She provides Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to clients with catastrophic neurological diagnoses both within specialist residential facilities and the wider community. She continues to assess and recommend specialist equipment including wheelchair provision.
